What are your current responsibilities?
Head of PE
Line management of three full time teachers, one learning support assistant and a sensory coordinator.
Why have you chosen to become an SLE?
I am passionate about enabling children to have a fulfilling and happy experience of school life so that they can make progress socially, emotionally and academically. Throughout my career I have received outstanding support which has inspired and motivated me to experience and develop my skills. I would like to use these skills, knowledge and experience to support others.
What are your areas of expertise? How might you be able to help the schools?
1) Developing PE provision at all key stages from R – 4 for students with a wide range of abilities. Developing appropriate extracurricular activities. Getting the most from learning support assistants in PE. Planning sports days and other appropriate activities for students of all ages.
2) Dealing with students who present behavioural or SEN issues both within a classroom and PE environment. Promoting inclusion and participation for all students regardless of their needs.
3) Sensory provision providing guidance on how to establish a sensory provision in your school. Support and advice on equipment and how to maximise its potential and training of staff on using sensory equipment.
